The Lagos Island Girl’s Coding Club is the initiative Mrs. Yetunde Johnson, MD Slingshot Technologies, the program was birthed from the Mrs. Johnson’s passion to impact technology in girls and women.
The Lagos Island Girls Coding Club (LIGCC) project is one with the purpose of giving back to the society. The project is birthed on the need to have more women involved in technology and equipping young girls with the necessary knowledge needed to birth new leagues of innovators and technology disrupters.

The LIGCC Program so far

The LIGCC program started with six girls in the first week of coding classes increasing to 10 in the following week. The goal is to train and equip more secondary school girls or school leavers on how to produce their websites, after which they will be sent out to their neighborhoods to build websites for SOHOs and SMEs in their communities. This will make them Tech evangelist in their communities, act as proof of the training and skills acquired as part of the LIGCC, to their parents and guardians. The girls are from the locality they will be able to connect well with their community to explain the relevance of the technology they use and help to increase the adoption and awareness girls towards technology.

Upon the successful completion of the coding program, the girls will prove their skills by building a website for someone in their locality. Slingshot Technologies will provide the girls with a .ng domain, hosted by Slingshot for a year, so as to encourage and show their parents ,friends and their neighborhood the advantages of the program and the skills gained.

The LIGCC program also aims to give the girls a skill which they can use to generate an income for them and their family.
